6.1-mag. earthquake hits Taiwan, south of Taitung

TAITUNG, Taiwan -- An earthquake with a magnitude of 6.1 struck Taiwan late yesterday, the United States Geological Survey said.

The quake struck at 10:58 p.m. local time and was centered 188 kilometers south of Taitung in Taiwan, the USGS reported, at a depth of 10 kilometers.
