Man abducted near Zhongyi MRT station

TAIPEI, Taiwan -- Police are still investigating the whereabouts of a person abducted following an alleged dispute over drugs in New Taipei City.

Authorities said they had arrested two suspects Wednesday.

A man, surnamed Chen, was abducted on the street near Zhongyi MRT Station over what was thought to be a dispute over drugs.

Witnesses said a black vehicle pulled over, blocking a white vehicle driven by Chen.

Chen, along with a friend, surnamed Huang, had been in the white vehicle, when a man surnamed Hsu exited the black vehicle, demanding that Chen get out. Hsu then began beating Chen with a baseball bat, before placing him in the back of the black vehicle.

Huang later told police that he had been driving with Chen in his white vehicle following a visit to a nearby car repair factory, when they were stopped by Hsu's car as they were passing Zhongyi Station.

After the incident, Huang told local media he had been "too scared to call the police" and could only watch as his friend was dragged off.

"(I) was really shocked," a taxi driver parked right across the street who witnessed the entire abduction, told local media. "That person who was beaten was dragged off into a car by his hair and was taken away."

The taxi driver hurriedly reported the incident to the police.

Officers from Taipei City Police Department Criminal Investigation Division and Beitou Branch then spent most of Tuesday night searching for the black car.

Police later apprehended two suspects in New Taipei City's Tamshui District, following a car chase that ended when the suspects crashed into an SUV in front of Mackay Memorial Hospital around 3 p.m. Both suspects were taken in for questioning.

Chen reportedly went missing after calling his girlfriend on Tuesday night.

Chen's whereabouts are still unknown as of press time.

Uptick in MRT Crime

The abduction comes after two women were injured Tuesday when a man, surnamed Lin, attacked them with his fists at Jiantan MRT Station.

The man then escaped on a motorcycle. He was reportedly waiting for his medical technologist with his mother at the MRT station to head to a nearby clinic for mental health counseling.

The two women, one 18 and the other 50, were rushed to the hospital with knee and facial injuries.

The suspect was discovered by the police on Tuesday night at a park in Shilin District.

He was reportedly sitting on a toilet inside the park's restroom in what police described as

"deep thought."

Another woman was reportedly attacked by the suspect as he left Jiantan Station.

The three women are set to press charges against Lin.
