TAIPEI, Taiwan -- Hundreds of football fans from all over the world gathered together yesterday morning to root and shout for their favorite teams in the FIFA World Cup Final at Grand Hyatt Taipei's We Are One Championship Fiesta.
The championship game of the FIFA World Cup was viewed in the grand marble lobby of Grand Hyatt Taipei in a first for one of the capital cities premier luxury hotels.
The idea of uniting football fans for the exciting FIFA final came from Kai Speth, general manager of Grand Hyatt Taipei, who is from Germany. The tickets for the FIFA party sold out in the blink of an eye and over 800 passionate football fans from around the globe had a blast watching the game with the help of the two 210-inch screens and eight 65-inch televisions.
Before the kickoff of the exhilarating World Cup Final, a group of showgirls danced as the pre-game entertainment, drawing the amped-up crowd to the bar located in the center of the hotel lobby. The hotel even drained its central fountain and filled it with ice for an arsenal of drinks to keep the event going all night long.
Speth said that the event was a first for Grand Hyatt Taipei, in that the main attraction didn't begin until 3 a.m. He said he was surprised at the incredible turnout, which saw the lobby of the 5-star Taipei icon turn into a mini stadium, with crowds as excited as the ones watching the game first hand in Brazil, from the beer halls of Munich or the beachside cabanas of Buenos Aires.
"It took the staff months to plan this fiesta, including the preparation of food, drinks and the outfits for the staff to wear," said Speth. "We wanted the party to not only shorten the distance between visitors from around the world, but also create a new image on how the younger generation views Grand Hyatt Taipei."
Speth was excited about the match between Germany and Argentina himself, too. As a fellow German, Speth promised to treat all the fans at the fiesta a shot of Jagermeister if Germany won, so when the final whistle blew and German flags began to wave around the world, the general manager delivered on his promise.
Two guests of Grand Hyatt Taipei, Rainer Stark and Yasmin Boffill, both from Germany, celebrated the thrilling match between Germany and Argentina at the We Are One Championship Fiesta yesterday morning.
Stark and Boffill, who were both geared up with the jerseys of the German football team, said that they only heard about the party on Sunday morning, which was a pleasant surprise for them because they did not expect to have a FIFA fiesta like this in Taipei.
