4 dead, 21 injured in stabbing on Taipei metro

TAIPEI, Taiwan -- A bloody knife attack on a Taipei metro train Wednesday afternoon left at least four people dead and 21 injured, with victims sent to area hospitals.

A single suspect, revealed by sources as a university student, was subdued by police and metro staff. Unconfirmed reports indicate the suspect was intoxicated.

The attack took place sometime after 4 p.m. on the Bannan (blue) line, inside a train heading west between Longshan Temple Station in Taipei and Jiangzicui Station in New Taipei.

Police arrived on the scene at around 4:35 p.m. Metro operations reportedly returned to normal by 4:50 p.m., but the train where the attack occurred has been sent to a depot for investigation.
