New Taipei mayor prescribes self-reflection for Kuomintang

TAIPEI, Taiwan -- New Taipei City Mayor Eric Chu (朱立倫) said yesterday that the Kuomintang (KMT) should self reflect on the actions taken by the party in recent years, as they have indeed differed from the public consensus.

In a public appearance yesterday, Chu was interviewed by the media regarding his appointment as a vice chairman for the KMT. Chu was quoted as saying that the KMT should self reflect on its actions in recent years.

In the wake of numerous protest rallies against multiple actions and policies, the KMT has indeed differed from public consensus said Chu, which is why the party has the responsibility to advance Taiwan toward a positive future through the unification of central and local governments through legislation and the general opinions of the people.

Taichung Mayor Jason Hu (胡志強) also stated during an interview yesterday that President Ma Ying-jeou Ma should act according to public opinion in light of his low approval rates. As a result of the low rates, said Hu, Ma will be criticized for any action he decides to take, which is a reason why the three mayors have been brought on board to serve as KMT vice chairmen.
