NTU receives NT$90 mil. donation from US alum

TAIPEI -- A well-known U.S. obstetrician donated NT$90 million (US$3 million) to her Taiwan alma mater to help train female medical scientists.

Livia S. Wan, 80, said she wanted to encourage more women to dedicate themselves to medical science, particularly in the field of obstetrics and gynecology.

Her alma mater National Taiwan University (NTU) said it will use the money to set up a special fund to hire female professors in the specified field.
