Taipei Zoo gives tips on best times to see Yuan Zai

TAIPEI -- Giant panda cub Yuan Zai will make her highly anticipated debut in front of the public today, and keepers at the Taipei Zoo yesterday offered tips on the times when the six-month-old furry ball of mischief will be at her most active.

Noting that Yuan Zai sleeps 70 percent of the time, zookeepers said the cub was most likely to be active from 9-11 a.m. and 4-5 p.m. in 20 minute spurts.

Yuanzai might also awaken and move around when her mother, Yuan Yuan, is fed at 1:30 p.m. and 3:30 p.m., zoo keepers said.

Those hoping to see the entire family of Yuan Yuan, Yuan Zai and the father, Tuan Tuan, together will be disappointed.

The zoo said that because pandas are territorial animals, Tuan Tuan will be kept in one enclosure and Yuan Yuan and her cub in another.

Yuanzai, the first panda cub to be born in Taiwan, has soaked up the media spotlight since being born on July 6, 2013, her every move followed by local residents through daily photos and videos distributed by the zoo.
