TAIPEI, Taiwan -- Minister of the Hakka Affairs Council (HAC, 客家委員會) Huang Yu-cheng (黃玉振) announced yesterday that the 2013-2014 Hakka Expo will take place at the Taipei World Trade Center, Nangang Exhibition Hall (台北世界貿易中心南港展覽館) from Dec. 28 to Jan. 5., and will present the HAC's achievements in developing industries related to Hakka culture over the past year.
The exhibition is divided into two parts — Hakka delicacies and Hakka tourist attractions. The HAC invited Liang Yu Hsiang (梁幼祥), a famous chief, to design a new dish with dried radish, a traditional ingredient in Hakka cuisine. In addition, the HAC also offers a special tourist package with which visitors can learn how to make “lei cha” (擂茶), a traditional Hakka drink which one can also sample when traveling to Hakka villages.
Huang said that the HAC staff each year put forth great efforts to hold the annual Hakka Expo. This year, they came up with six different lifestyle products specially designed with Hakka patterns to offer visitors as gifts. Visitors to the expo can learn much about Hakka culture and can receive special Hakka gifts. The gift is only one among many special features of the expo, with many more to be discovered inside, stated Huang.
