Aunt who added salt to infant's milk charged

TAIPEI, Taiwan -- The Taipei District Court (TDPO) yesterday charged the aunt of a deceased 3-month-old infant with homicide for allegedly adding various types of salt to the infant's powdered milk.

According to the TDPO, the infant's aunt, surnamed Tsou, was detained in November as a defendant amidst allegations of homicide. Prosecutors said that Tsou confessed during questioning that she had added different types of salt to the infant's powdered milk many times between September and October.

Prosecutors said that Tsou admitted she just wanted to teach the infant's mother a lesson, and her lawyer asked prosecutors to charge Tsou based on Article 278 of the Criminal Code as a person who causes serious physical injury to another that results in death. A charge under Article 278 comes with lighter sentences than a charge of homicide.

According to prosecutors, the main reason why Tsou was charged with homicide was that she did not stop adding salt into the infant's powdered milk even after the infant was taken to a hospital.

Prosecutors said that Tsou even doubled the amount of salt that she put into the milk powder when the infant was in critical condition at the hospital.

However, prosecutors suggested that the judge should hand out appropriate sentences after considering that Tsou was the only source of financial income for her family since her husband is unemployed.

Prosecutors said that Tsou's motive for adding the salt to the powdered milk was that she did not get along with the infant's mother, who is her sister-in-law.

I can't understand if the baby was rushed to the hospital the first time the infant got sick why that doctor did not find it soon. The doctor did not ask what milk the baby is taking. The parents must ask also what caused the fever of the baby... and the aunt Tsou must be punish heavily or executed under the death penalty. She's a cold blooded person if she can do it to her own relatives she will do it again. Why give her a chance? Then now asking for a lighter sentence, is that a joke? How can she sleep at night? Maybe she was laughing now... GOD gave us the life .. nobody takes that away.. even domesticated animals should be treated with respect and care.. talking of an infant... She is crazy...
