TAIPEI, Taiwan -- The 2013 Taipei Food Festival opened yesterday for a two-day run at the Expo Dome in Yuanshan Park, with a total of 150 famous food and snack suppliers offering discounts to attract patronage from visitors, according the Department of Economic Development of the Taipei City Government, organizer of the event.

Huang Chi-jui, director of the said department, noted that this year's festival features seven major themed areas, namely Chinese cuisine, night-market snacks, Taiwanese food, Thai foods, exotic cuisine, etc.

Particularly, the night-market snacks area gathered suppliers of favorite snack foods such as oyster omelet, squid soup, small octopus dumplings, and fried salty chicken, among others, from famous night markets in Taipei.

The exhibitors at the festival rushed to offer discounts to solicit patronage from visitors, with some even providing a 50 percent discount.

The organizer has also prepared Moon Festival gift boxes for the first 100 visitors to the fair during each of the two exhibition days.
