CIB apprehends large-scale online train ticket scalper
The China Post news staffTAIPEI, Taiwan -- The Criminal Investigation Bureau (CIB) has arrested a man for allegedly running a scalping operation using fake accounts to make massive online bookings of holiday train tickets, officials said yesterday.

The alleged scalper, surnamed Hsiao, made almost half a million train bookings in a period of two months earlier this year, and successfully obtained tens of thousands of tickets, the CIB officials said.
The tickets were usually for trains to popular tourist destinations, such as Yilan, Hualien and Taitung during holiday periods, the officials said.
The suspect confessed that he acted on commissions from souvenir stores in Hualien and travel agencies who needed the tickets for their tour groups from China, the officials said.
Hsiao allegedly set up several online accounts on the Taipei Railway Administration's website using stolen IDs. He had several computers running automatic bookings, the officials said.
