Tom Cruise learns to make small steamed buns in Taipei

TAIPEI--Hollywood star Tom Cruise Saturday paid a whirlwind visit to a local restaurant and learned how to make its featured fare of xiaolongbao, or small steamed buns.

He is on his third visit to Taiwan, this time to promote his latest sci-fi action movie "Oblivion," in which he plays a veteran in the future who will determine the fate of mankind.

Cruise wore a big smile throughout the 20-minute stay at the Taipei 101 branch of dumpling specialist Din Tai Fung.

The 50-year-old, appearing spirited in a white apron, worked with about a dozen cooks to make xiaolongbao and exchange comments with them during the process.

Cruise faced about 50 cheering local fans who braced heavy rain to greet him, and shook hands with some of them.

"This is like watching a movie," said 18-year-old Viona Hsieh, whose family reserved a seat at Din Tai Fung to check out Cruise.

He will be in Taiwan until April 7 and attend the film's premiere Saturday evening with the movie's director Joseph Kosinski and co-star Olga Kurylenko.
