Police nab 4 Bamboo Union gangsters on extortion chargesThe China Post news staff TAIPEI, Taiwan -- New Taipei police authorities last week arrested four gangsters belonging to the Bamboo Union (竹聯幫), one of the major organized crime gangs in Taiwan, over alleged extortion, the Criminal Investigation Bureau (CIB) said yesterday.
March 14, 2013, 12:00 am TWN Law enforcement officers from the city's Xindian (新店) and Tamsui (淡水) districts conducted raids in several locations around the city on March 8, arresting the gang leader, surnamed Liao (廖), and his three henchmen, surnamed Tseng (曾), Chang (張) and Chou (周), the CIB said in a statement. The four were sent to the Taipei District Prosecutors Office for further investigation over alleged protection racket schemes for several local construction companies, the CIB said. |
