TAIPEI--The 2013 Taipei International Machine Tool Show (TIMTOS) will be held next week and is expected to attract a record number of exhibitors and visitors from around the world, the organizers said recently.
The biennial exhibition, slated for March 5-10, has already attracted over 1,000 local and foreign exhibitors from 17 countries, occupying 5,400 booths, said the Taiwan External Trade Development Council (TAITRA), which is organizing the event.
At the 2011 show, a total of 928 exhibitors participated, occupying 5,152 booths. Around 41,000 visitors attended the event.
This year, the six-day show will have a stronger presence than ever from Germany and Switzerland, as the two European countries see Taiwan as a potentially good partner, the organizers said.
A German pavilion will be set up at the show for the first time, while a Swiss pavilion, the biggest national pavilion at the show, will feature the latest machine tool and tools technology of over 40 Swiss manufacturers.
“The prominent Swiss machine tool presence indicates the importance and the vitality of this industry,” the Trade Office of Swiss Industries said in a statement recently.
According to statistics provided by the Taiwan Association of Machinery Industry, the total export volume of Taiwan's machine tools reached US$4.23 billion in 2012, up 5.9 percent from a year ago.
The show, the largest of its kind in Taiwan, will take place at the Taipei World Trade Center Exhibition Hall 1, 2, 3 and Nangang Exhibition Hall.
The largest Asian machine tool exhibition is the International Machine Tool and Tools Exhibition in China, which drew 1,200 exhibitors in 2012, according to that show's official website.
