New Taipei City not against entertainment zone: mayorCNA TAIPEI--New Taipei “would not reject” the idea of setting up an entertainment complex in the city based on the Las Vegas model if all conditions could be met, the city's mayor, Eric Chu, said yesterday.
February 19, 2013, 12:02 am TWN Chu said the idea, proposed earlier in the day by Hon Hai Group Chairman Terry Gou, would require the policy planning of the central government and the passing of related bills by the Legislature. Gou suggested that Taiwan follow the example of Las Vegas and set up a special casino area with convention and exhibition facilities in Danshui district in New Taipei to boost the domestic economy. He contended that the casino industry was about more than gambling and could become a platform to promote employment, tourism, consumer spending and technology exhibitions.
