Demand for Wi-Fi, online services in Taipei sees riseCNA TAIPEI--The number of people using Taipei's free Wi-Fi service and the city's online websites and e-services grew in the first 11 months of 2012, Taipei's Department of Budget, Accounting and Statistics said in a statement Wednesday.
January 3, 2013, 12:02 am TWN A total of 1.58 million people had applied for access to the free Wi-Fi service, called Taipei Free, as of the end of November 2012, up from about 900,000 subscribers at the beginning of the year. Use of the service, launched in July 2011 to provide public wireless services in government buildings, commercial centers and on buses, was also on the rise throughout 2012, the statement said. Subscribers used Taipei Free an average 1.67 million times per month to access the Internet in the first 11 months of 2012, and over 2.2 million times per month between July and November, signaling an upward trend.
