The city became the first public organization to win the Public Sector Excellence award for a second time when it was honored for its “Love @Taipei, a Smart City” campaign by the World Information Technology and Services Alliance (WITSA) at the congress.
Taipei previously won the award in 2002 for its “Cyber City” campaign.
Chang Chia-sheng, the commissioner of the city's Department of Information Technology who is in Montreal, shared the award with Taiwan through a webcam.
He said the city's several urban services, including the public service 1999 call center, a closed-circuit television system that aims to lower the crime rate, and the city's Taipei Free Public Wi-Fi Access, were instrumental in helping the city win the award.
