None dead in New Taipei train derailment: TRA

TAIPEI -- A train derailment occurred at around 2 p.m. Monday in New Taipei, northern Taiwan, causing no casualties but halting operations on the branch line until later in the evening, the Taiwan Railways Administration (TRA) reported that day.

The accident occurred about 100 meters from Jingtong Station, one of the two stations on the Pingsi branch line. Passengers traveling on the train walked to the station after the three-carriage train came off the rails, the TRA said.

Administration officials added that shuttle buses were later enlisted to carry passengers — mainly tourists and local commuters — between Jingtong and Pingsi stations, both of which are located in a mountainous region of the county.

The cause of the derailment was under investigation, the officials said.
