Video shows Makiyo kicking driver: mediaThe footage from an onboard camcorder which recorded the assault shows a woman kicking the driver, surnamed Lin, said the reports, which were accompanied by the video clip. Prosecutors have identified the woman attacker as Makiyo, the reports said. Her Japanese friend, Takateru Tomoyori, has claimed that he was the only one involved in the assault. The victim's attorney, however, said the pair have continued to lie about the alleged assault, and provided prosecutors with what he called a piece of key evidence as proof. The beleaguered Makiyo and Tomoyori have openly apologized over the incident, but the driver and his family cannot accept the apology, said the lawyer, Yu Chun-ju, at the Taipei District Prosecutors Office. It is unforgivable that Tomoyori denied hitting the driver on the head, the lawyer said. Yu handed over several items of evidence, including a white cap the driver was wearing at the time. Yu claimed that on the cap are shoe prints proving Lin was stomped on the head while lying on the ground during the assault. Both Makiyo and Tomoyori have been questioned by prosecutors and were allowed out on bail. Prosecutors have yet to determine the charges to be pressed against the pair, but the United Evening News said if prosecutors determine that Tomoyori had hit Lin on the head, attempted murder charges against him could be an option. What I am disappointed in though is the way the Taiwanese media has covered this case. Makiyo and her BF have been found guilty in a trial-by-media which is really disturbing and not what should be occurring in an advanced country like Taiwan. War is ugly. War brings destruction, tragedy and dead. But still the Japanese government denies the brutal atrocities committed by their fanatical military in WW2 by revising the History against humanity. Just like a heinous criminal denying his wrong doing. i.e. Short account what really happened in Nanjing massacre. Japan's government did NOT build a shrine to war criminals. The Yasukuni Shrine was erected in the 1860s and 1870s and after World War II was privatized. 2. Most Japanese textbooks include information about the atrocities that were committed during World War II and most are knowledgeable and remorseful about it. They do NOT deny their occurrence -- only a few aging, right-wing ultra-nationalists deny it. 3. Neither Hitler nor Mussolini was convicted. Hirohito was not tried because he was not considered to have played a major role in what happened. The leader was Tojo Hideki. There is a long history in Japan of the emperor not being the major political/military power in Japan. Furthermore, Hirohito was regarded as instrumental in pacifying Japan. Perhaps you don't have relatives that were killed by the Japanese or suffered under them. Or perhaps you don't care to know. If you visit Auswitz, you will see a similar statement carved in stone--those who forget are doomed to repeat history. The Japanese have contributed a lot to this lingering bad blood--their inability to acknowledge their aggression. The Japanese emperor is just as guilty as Tojo in maintaining the war. That he wasn't tried and hung as a war criminal may have saved his ass but condemned the entire Japanese race to selective amnesia. Till today, there are large numbers of Japanese who deny the rape of Nanjing, or that the Japanese army committed any atrocities in china.
