Tokyo Disneyland crew to perform at Lantern Festival

TAIPEI -- Representatives from Tokyo Disneyland said Saturday they are looking forward to performing at the 2012 Lantern Festival, which will start Feb. 6 in Changhua County, central Taiwan.

The Disney crew will present a one-of-a-kind parade during its first overseas performance, said Eriko Yokota, the 2012 Tokyo Disney Resort ambassador, at a welcome party in Taipei held by the Ministry of Transportation and Communications (MOTC).

Tokyo Disneyland's “Dream Bus,” a specially designed float, will be part of the parade, Yokota said.

“We are thrilled to bring the joy of Disneyland to everyone in Taiwan,” said Yokota, who was accompanied by the theme park's beloved mascot Mickey Mouse. More than 100 Japanese artists and musicians, along with some 40 Taiwan elementary students, will perform at the parade, presenting a mixture of American, Japanese and Taiwanese culture, according to the Tokyo Disney team.

Yokota said the Disney crew would like to take the opportunity to thank Taiwan for the tremendous humanitarian relief it provided after a massive earthquake that devastated northeastern Japan last March.

Meanwhile, MOTC Minster Mao Chi-kuo said he hopes that activities like the parade will help to promote more tourism exchanges between Taiwan and Japan.

Taiwan hosted some 1.29 million Japanese visitors last year, according to Tourism Bureau statistics.
