The China Post news staff --The 2011 Hsinchu City Rice Noodle & Meatball Festival is scheduled to take place at the Wind City on the weekend of Oct. 15-16. Visitors to the event will experience the integration of traditions with modern technology.
Hsinchu Mayor Hsu Ming-tsai said this year's festival offers the unique combination of delicacies with intelligent navigation services.
The Department of Communication and Technology at the National Chiao Tung University helped set up the unique smart and high-tech services in cooperation with rice noodle and meatball suppliers, Far EasTone Telecommunications and several information technology firms.
Mayor Hsu said the online telecom and navigation information will enable visitors to the festival easily find the more than 300 time-honored suppliers of rice noodles and meatballs in Hsinchu area.
There is also information about 30 tourist routes and other scenic spots that are extremely popular with veteran travelers and young people.
Hsu called the festival an unprecedented combination of traditional food delicacies and sophisticated technologies in Hsinchu, which is also home to the largest number of high-tech enterprises in Taiwan.
Professor Lin Chung-wei at the National Chiao Tung University said the intelligent information and navigation services will enable visitors to Hsinchu to more deeply participate in the festivities instead of limiting themselves simply as “passers-by.”
Visitors to the festival will have the opportunity of enjoying rice noodles and meatballs of the best quality.

There will also be prize raffles for visitors to win deep discounts and extra gifts, including an iMac.
