TAIPEI, Taiwan — The Taipei International Flora Expo's “Pavilion of Dreams,” “Pavilion of Future,” and “Pavilion of Angel Life” took the top prize at the 9th Taipei Urban Landscape Awards yesterday, which celebrated innovative landscaping that transforms the bustle of Taipei City into aesthetically pleasing environments.
The celebration of urban renewal started out with the “2010 The Face of Taipei City,” an event hosted by the Department of Urban Development back in August, where the Taipei City Government welcomed the application of both private and government owned projects that showed innovation and architectural aesthetic while raising awareness of the environment.
By the Sept. 30 deadline, 44 applicants had been chosen, among them were the many pavilions of the Flora Expo, the “Transformer Urban Show Case @ Taipei Cinema Park,” the “URS27 Huashan Grand Green,” the Taipei City Hall Bus Station and various others.
After much deliberation by a panel of judges, the pavilions of “Dreams,” “Future” and “Angel Life” won the Taipei Urban Landscape Award. Special prizes were given to the Flora Expo Pavilion of New Fashion, the “Green Gate” constructed by the National Taipei University of Technology, which also won the online award and the “URS27 Husashan Grand Green.” Architects and design companies of the top landscapes won NT$300,000 in prize money.
The Department of Urban Department explained that each and every piece represented the technology, style and environmental awareness that goes into landscaping; demonstrating the many divergent and dynamic faces of Taipei City. The amount of time spent in planning, mapping and construction was wonderfully evident when the pieces came into fruition, the department added.
