Siblings demand DNA test in Wang paternity case

TAIPEI, Taiwan -- A man and his two elder sisters who are claiming they are illegitimate children of late founder Y.C. Wang of the Formosa Plastic Group (FPG), yesterday called for Wang Wen-yang, also known as Winston Wong and the eldest son of the FPG founder, to join them in a DNA test to determine their blood ties with the late tycoon.

Lo Wen-yuan, Lo Hsueh-ying and Lo Hsueh-chen issued the call at a family court session of the Taipei District Court held to screen their request to verify that they are the children of Y.C. Wang born out of wedlock.

In May, it was officially confirmed that the three have no blood relationship with their stepfather. They then filed an application with the family court of the Taipei District Court to verify their blood ties with Y.C. Wang and change their surname to Wang.

The three claimed their mother, named Lin Ming-chu, was the fourth wife of Y.C. Wang.

At yesterday's session, they called for Wang Kuei-yuan, eldest daughter of Y.C. Wang's second wife; Wang Jui-hua, eldest daughter of the tycoon's third wife; as well as his former personal secretary to show up at the session. But they didn't appear, and instead only their designated lawyer Lee Wen-chung attended the session on behalf of them.

At the session, the Los' lawyer Hsu Ling-chu presented evidence supposedly showing how Y.S. Wang had taken care of his three illegitimate children by Lin Ming-chu, including checks issued by Wang, pictures taken with Wang and letters exchanged between Wang and Lo's family members, so as to persuade court judges to issue a go-ahead for the DNA test.

Hsu noted that when still alive, the stepfather of the three Los had send a letter to Y.C. Wang expressing hopes of allowing the three Los to use their real surname, Wang. The letter was finally found in Y.C. Wang's drawer and was read by Wang Kuei-yun.
