TAIPEI, Taiwan -- Law enforcement forces seized nearly 200,000 tablets of the controlled hypnotic drug nimetazepam and nabbed two suspects after raiding a warehouse in the northern port city of Keelung early yesterday morning.
Marketed under the brand name "Erimin" and also known as "Happy 5" "red bean," the fourth-grade narcotic was concealed in instant noodle packs that were ready for export to Malaysia, Keelung police said.
The police, along with prosecutors from Hsinchu City and officers from the Coast Guard Administration's Keelung Patrol Office, stormed the warehouse located in Keelung City's Anle District in the early hours of Tuesday morning.
They unpacked nearly 500 cartons of instant noodles and discovered about 200,000 Erimin tablets in 11 of the cartons.
The prosecutors brought the two men and the seized drugs back to Hsinchu for further questioning and investigation.
A mood stabilizer, Erimin is generally prescribed for the treatment of insomnia. It has also been used in pubs as an ecstasy or rape drug.
