Taiwanese choreographer's new work to show in JapanThe dance features an impromptu presentation that incorporates dance, theatrical and violin performances. With its dramatic charm and the strong energy demonstrated by the dancers, the work enchanted German audiences when it was premiered in Berlin in April. Sun, one of the most active Taiwanese dancers in Europe, will lead an international team of artists to present the work at the Spring Arts Festival Shizuoka. Among the troupe are Czech and French dancers, German actors and a German stage designer, as well as a Bulgarian violinist. The 33-year-old dancer choreographer, whose works synchronize with contemporary European dance vocabulary, won great acclaim when his work “Nuewa” was performed at the famous French arts festival Avignon Off last summer. All of the “Nuewa” performances at the festival were sold out. Among the audience was the artistic director of the Shizuoka arts festival, who was very impressed and fascinated by the show and so decided to invite Sun to present some of his work at this year's event in Japan, according to Sun. Taipei City's Department of Cultural Affairs and the Taipei-based Lo Man-fei Foundation will provide financial support for the “4.48 Psychosis” presentation in Japan. Sun said he will continue to create pieces that incorporate dance, images, theater, music and other aspects of the performing arts. Sun is also a member of German choreographer Sasha Waltz's troupe, which will present a new piece titled “Continu” in Zurich, Switzerland, on June 20. | |||||||||||||
