Teenage girl dies of swine flu in N. Taiwan

TAIPEI, Taiwan -- Health authorities yesterday confirmed a teenage girl died last week of swine flu, the first H1N1-inflicted death in almost three months.

The latest victim was a 15-year-old junior high school student from northern Taiwan who had diabetes and had not been vaccinated for swine flu, the Department of Health (DOH) said.

It the 42nd death case in Taiwan since the swine flu outbreak, the DOH said.

According to the DOH, the girl fell sick on April 27, but did not go to the doctor until May 3.

Her condition worsened on May 4, she was sent to a hospital in northern Taiwan. She died in hospital a day later.
