A resident told the local media that it started to feel like an earthquake when cars drove by, and ceilings were starting to collapse. Big slabs of concrete fell from the ceilings of a home when cars drove by, causing danger to residents, according to local reporter. “We thought it was an accident and when we woke up in the morning, we saw the collapsed ceiling,” another resident said, adding that “someone could've gotten killed.” Councilor Chen Chi-cheng (陳志成) attributed the problem to the weight of the overpass plus the large vehicles traveling on it, affecting the foundation. “There are cracks on both balconies on the front and back,” Chen said after looking at a house. The overpass affected sixty households, including two sustaining the most damages with falling tiles and steel surfacing from underneath the walls. The two house owners are seeking compensation from contractors. Subscribe to The China Post and save 25%. Click here |
