Updated Friday, March 19, 2010 9:47 am TWN, CNA Taipei to reopen Maokong Gondola at end of MarchWhile working on pillar foundation reinforcement, the city government has invested NT$50 million to improve surrounding facilities including pedestrian zones, and to restore old farmhouses, watermills and barns in order to offer package tours incorporating Maokong's many attractions. When the Maokong cable car resumes its service, visitors who buy tickets will be able to enjoy tours that feature tea gardens, provide a taste of pastoral life or teach about ecological systems. The city government will also offer a voucher for a rebate and a ticket to the Taipei Flora Expo, which is slated to open in November. The reopening of the cable car system is great news for restaurants and shops in the area, which are expecting a gradual recovery. Many small businesses are on the brink of folding after revenues dropped nearly 90 percent over the past 18 months, said Hsu Ming-ting, owner of Maokong Restaurant.
