Updated Thursday, March 11, 2010 9:41 am TWN, The China Post news staff NTU shuts down e-bulletin for encouraging drug useA graduate student, falling prey to the tantalizing messages left on the bulletin board on the PTT website, reportedly had gone bankrupt and dropped out after wasting NT$300,000 on night-club visits. The bulletin board had been devoted to discussion of Taipei City's night clubs and all sorts of experiences, including drug use, during visits to these venues. NTU said it has shut down the bulletin board and is trying to identify its host. Although the PTT website is operated on the school's server, the school said its use is not restricted to NTU personnel alone. PTT is the biggest electronic bulletin service in Taiwan, with 1.5 million registered users, according to the Central News Agency. The Education Ministry has suggested NTU take PTT off its academic network, but the school has responded by saying that it would get out of control even more easily by having it operated off campus, according to the United Evening News. The ministry said NTU must be able to provide regulation if it wishes to keep the site. Subscribe to The China Post and save 25%. Click here |
