Updated Monday, March 8, 2010 10:02 am TWN, The China Post news staff Rain shelter saves a female fugitive's lifeUsually people jumping from a high level will suffer major injuries or even die. But it was not the case for the fugitive, Chen Yu-hua, since the rain shelter set up on the first floor acted as a protective cushion as she jumped from the 8th floor. Although a huge hole was ripped in the shelter after the crash, the shelter did not break into pieces completely, which reduced the impact caused by the collision, and the woman did not fall to the ground directly; consequently, she was not severely hurt, said a firefighter on the scene. On Friday morning, the police tried to capture the 26-year-old fugitive, who was sentenced to 8 months in prison for a drug case, at her residence. However, Chen put up resistance, cutting the police, and later decided to jump to the ground. With the rain shelter serving as a life savior, Chen was stabilized, despite several fractures and contusions, after being rushed to the hospital for emergency care, the police added.
