Updated Wednesday, February 10, 2010 9:40 am TWN, The China Post new staff Driver nearly convicted for incidental fingerprintsThe discharged suspect, surnamed Gu, was originally charged with theft that occurred in a private Taipei City residence in October of 2008, after the police found two of his fingerprints on a deity altar at the scene. However, he was exonerated after investigation showed that his fingerprints had been sealed to the table by a coating of veneer before the victim, surnamed Ye, bought the table. Gu, who worked for a deity altar company over a decade ago told the court that he had probably left his fingerprints when he moved the table with wet paint inside a drawer. The Taipei District Court also believed Gu's alibi, since he was working at the time of the crime as a truck driver, the case's presiding judge found it unlikely that Gu would abandon his truck on the side of the road and commit a random theft.
