Thank-you concert to be held for contributors to Morakot relief

TAIPEI, Taiwan -- The Taiwan chapter of the Christian charity World Vision said Thursday that it will hold a concert Nov. 28 to express gratitude to the people who contributed to or participated in the relief and recovery operations in the aftermath of Typhoon Morakot, which devastated southern Taiwan in August.

The Taiwan Children's Choir, sponsored by World Vision Taiwan, will perform alongside Heavenly Melody at a concert titled "Praise Hope, Sing for Love" at the Grace Baptist Church in Taipei. First Lady Chow Mei-ching, who is a long-term sponsor of the charity, is expected to attend the concert, according to a World Vision Taiwan press statement.

Morakot swept through Taiwan Aug. 8-9, killing more than 600 people. The damage caused by the typhoon in parts of southern and eastern Taiwan was the worst in 50 years.

The members of the Taiwan Children's Choir, who are from the Chiayi Primary School Cultural Group in Pingtung County, donated their pocket money to help child survivors who lost their homes in the storm, World Vision said.

"Performing at this concert is truly an honor for these children," it added.

After Typhoon Morakot struck Taiwan, the group Heavenly Melody also performed in affected areas to encourage and bring comfort to those who were traumatized by the disaster.

The group, which is a professional Christian music ministry founded in 1963 by American missionary Doris Brougham, has performed in over 30 countries throughout the world.

World Vision Taiwan said the upcoming concert will bring much needed hope to those who are working to rebuild their lives.
