Taxi passenger penalized for knocking over riderThe passenger, a 44-year-old Singaporean woman surnamed Chen, took an unidentified taxi on Dec. 31, 2008 and headed for Bade Road, Taipei City, according to the Taipei District Court. When the taxi arrived at the intersection of Bade Road and Fuxing North Road, the driver did not pull over the car to drop Chen off. Chen opened the taxi's right back door without paying attention to a motorcycle coming from behind. The motorcyclist hit the door and suffered serious fractures on his left hand fingers. The court judged that Chen, who opened the door carelessly, was responsible for the accident. The court also ruled that the taxi driver was the most responsible person for failing to pull over or flash lights to notify other vehicles. However, while Chen accompanied the injured motorcyclist to the hospital after the accident, the taxi driver had left the scene and therefore could not be found. | |||||||||||||
