'Flower Fusion' show in Taipei going on

TAIPEI, Taiwan -- A Taiwanese-Canadian impressionist artist showcases her work in Taipei at the Far Eastern Plaza Hotel from July 1 to 31. The exhibition will kick off with a reception this afternoon at the hotel's sixth floor Shang Palace Restaurant.

Michelle Lan paints in a style frequently referred to as “impressionist” while integrating the subtlety often found in traditional Chinese art.

Combining this with extravagant colors found in Western cultures, she has developed her own style of painting.

Born and raised in Hualien, Lan pursued interior and commercial design at the Home Economic University. For many years, she studied Chinese ink, water, pastel and acrylic painting and calligraphy.

After moving to Vancouver, Canada, where she's lived for the past 16 years, Lan studied oil painting with numerous teachers. Her work is currently represented by the Howe Street Gallery of Fine Art in Vancouver.

In 2008, Lan launched her successful debut solo exhibition entitled “Desire of Color” at the Far Eastern Plaza Hotel in Taipei, selling virtually all of her paintings. Later that year her painting, “Shadow of Flowers,” won the Award of Excellence from the Federation of Canadian Artists. In 2009 her work was recognized by the West Vancouver Fine Art Association and showcased in the West Vancouver Silk Purse Gallery.

The artist encourages people to come enjoy her paintings while enjoying fine dining at the Shang Palace Restaurant, located on the sixth floor of the Shangri-La Far Eastern Plaza Hotel.

The exhibition, “Flower Fusion,” will be on display from July 1 to 31. The opening reception will be at 3:30 p.m. on July 4, 2009.
