Student expresses wish to take orphans to the moon in English test essay

TAIPEI, Taiwan -- Inviting orphans for a space trip to the moon is one wild dream attempted by a compassionate senior high school graduate taking the English-language test in this year's college entrance examination.

The topic of composition testing the graduates' English writing skills was a question concerning what they would do if given a chance of “doing anything one's heart dictates for one day without budget restraint.”

The plans on most students' wish lists focused mostly on money matters like buying up all the gold, diamonds or crude oil available on earth since there is no limitation on budget.

But one chose to take his grandfather for a tour of the National Palace Museum in Taipei because his grandpa liked artistic paintings most.

However, the grieving student sadly added that his regret was that his grandfather had already passed away. Lin Tze-lu from Taipei Municipal Jianguo High School said he would like to invite orphans on an eye-opening journey to the moon as a way of cheering them up.

Most examinees felt this year's English exam was slightly easier than those of previous years.

But many said there were certain tricky topics concerning filling in blanks to complete sentences that still demanded a sound knowledge about grammatical rules in order to choose the correct answers.
