Panchiao cop jailed over taking bribe of NT$10,000Tsai Kuo-pin, a police officer from Taipei County's Luchou division, was found guilty of corruption for taking bribes from a gambling operation in exchange for his silence. The sentence translates to one day in prison for every NT$5 in bribe money, a court official told the United Daily News, adding, “It really was not worth it!” The incident occurred last January, when Tsai was making his rounds in the area. After he discovered a mahjong set in a store, he threatened the owner, surnamed Chiu, to report him for illegal gambling unless Chiu “persuaded him otherwise.” Tsai's request for the bribe was discovered nearly a month later when Chiu told other police officers who inspected his store that he had “already paid NT$10,000” to another officer, so he hoped they would not close him down. | |||||||||||||
