City Government's Department of Education has been appointed to serve as the city's deputy mayor. Wu Ching-ji, 57, who holds a doctorate from National Taiwan Normal University and has done post-doctoral research at London University, will fill the post left by Wu Hsiu-kuang, who resigned late last month after a weekly magazine reported that he is under suspicion of having taken bribes from an arms dealer. Wu has denied any wrongdoing, but decided to step down as the reports has damaged his reputation and tarnished the image of the Taipei City Government.
