Three wanted for murder turn themselves in to police

KEELUNG, Taiwan -- Three men gave themselves up in Keelung late Sunday night, handing in two pistols they used to kill a mobster and wound two others. Keelung police identified the threesome as Huang Yeh-chieh, Lee Chih-wei and Chien Ming-tung.

Huang, 18, and Lee, 27, were detained without bail for further questioning in connection with the murder of Wu Tao-chien, a Mafia capo. Chien, 23, was released.

The shooting took place in front of the Department of Health Hospital in Keelung on April 28. Two of Wu's underlings suffered slight gunshot injuries. Wu wasn't the man Huang tried to kill, police investigators said.

"He was there, together with two of his underlings, to help mediate a row between Huang and another teenager," one investigator said.

The teenager was identified as Chang Chien-sheng. Chang, also 18, of Keelung, had a fight with Huang, who then asked for help from friends.

Together with the friends, Huang demanded a meeting with Chang at the Keelung hospital to settle the account. It was Chang's father, who asked Wu to help mediate. But in a melee in front of the hospital, Huang shot at Wu and his two troops, investigators said.
