Cash delivery van robbed of NT$4.3 mil. downtown

TAIPEI, Taiwan -- An armed robbery occurred yesterday at a postal office in Wanhua District, downtow

n Taipei, with two suspects running away with NT$4.3 million in cash after firing 10 gunshots at two security guards of an armored cash delivery van, according to the police.

The police said that the two suspects, wearing raincoats, helmets and surgical masks, rode a white motorcycle to the Ching Nien Postal Office at No. 36, Kuohsing Road, Wanhua District at 2:50 pm yesterday.

One of the two fired at least 10 shots, four hitting the security guard surnamed Chou and two hitting another guard surnamed Hsieh. Then the suspects quickly rode the motorbike away.

The two security guards were soon rushed to the Taipei Hoping Hospital for emergency treatment, but Chou was yet to come out of the woods. The police had already located the motorcycle near the Hua Chiang River of Panchiao City, when the motorcycle was reported missing by its owner in Pingtung County, southern Taiwan. The police have set up an ad hoc panel to make further probes into the case.
