Fake agent indicted over parking fee fraud

TAIPEI, Taiwan -- A man pretending to be an national security agent in order to save some parking fees has been indicted on fraud and document forgery charges, according to the Central News Agency (CNA).

The impostor, surnamed Chen, showed a fake National Security Bureau (NSB) ID and claimed to be a bodyguard for President Chen Shui-bian’s son-in-law Chao Chien-ming, when he refused to pay parking fees to a Taipei hotel, the CNA said. He was successful several times between last November and January, with a parking fee of only NT$100 involved each time, the CNA said.

He was arrested on Jan. 31 when he showed up at a police station, still pretending to be an NSB agent, and asked to see the police chief there, the CNA added.

The Taipei District Prosecutors Office indicted him after concluding an investigation.
