Hotel tempts Taiwan with Canadian food

TAIPEI, Taiwan -- The Landis Taipei Hotel launched a Canadian Food Festival yesterday to promote Canadian cuisine that features the original flavors of nature, according to Stephanie Liang, director of public relations at the hotel.

During the festival, which will be held from April 11 to May 4, the hotel will present a series of dishes prepared from ingredients imported from Canada, such as beef, lobster, salmon, blueberries, wild rice, icewine and maple syrup, all grown or produced naturally, Liang said.

“A clean environment does not come automatically — we’ve tried hard to work for it,” said Hugh Moeser, deputy director of the Canada Trade Office in Taipei which is one of the sponsors of the festival.

He said that his country has made efforts to enhance the quality of its food by establishing, for example, a system of traceability of beef to ensure the safety of meat from the farm to dining table.
