Ex-DPP chapter chief convicted of pedophilia

HSICHIH, Taiwan -- The Taiwan high court convicted Tsai Mao-hsiung, former Democratic Progressive Party chapter head in Hsichih, of four pedophiliac charges yesterday.

Tsai was convicted last July by the Taipei district court and was sentenced to 16 years in prison. He appealed. In a written verdict, an appellate court judge reduced the sentence to 14 years and two months. All offenses were committed between July and August 2004. The former party worker denied all charges, but the judge ruled he was guilty of doping four minors to have anal sex with them at his party chapter office.

Tsai said he would appeal to the Supreme Court.
