rowds of passengers expected during the Chinese New Year holidays, starting Feb. 7, according to the Taipei Rapid Transit Corp., operator of the system. TRTC officials said the gondola system will be closed for three consecutive days Feb. 4-6. February 4 falls on Monday, regular maintenance day for the system, and people will be busy making preparations for the Chinese New Year's eve, they noted.
Accordingly, the TRTC will shut down the cable car system on the said three days so as to intensify system maintenance and secure safe operations in the following 11 consecutive days, officials said.
During New Year holidays running from Feb. 7 to Feb. 11, business hours for the gondola system will be from 8:30 a.m. to 10:00 p.m., with operations from 9:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. for the following four days, Feb. 12-15.
Business hours will again run from 8:30 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. on Feb. 16-17, according to TRTC.
The officials stressed the last uphill gondola lift will depart at 9:30 p.m. at the Taipei Zoo station, and the last downhill car will leave Maokong station at 10:00 p.m.
