Quack held for cheating patients out of NT$70 mil.

TAIPEI, Taiwan -- A 63-year-old denture maker has been arrested in Taipei for cheating patients out of NT$70 million in 30 years.

Lin Mao-hung was nabbed at the dentist clinic of his two sons Monday. Both sons — Li-hsuan, 39, and Huang-yi, 35 — are licensed dentists, agents of the Criminal Investigation Bureau said yesterday.

The father used to make dentures at his own home at Shihlin, a district of Taipei. It was turned into a dentist clinic, where his eldest son started practicing ten years ago.

CIB agents said the victims didn’t know Lin Mao-hung was not a dentist, because he was treating them at the legitimate clinic.

He handled more than 10,000 visits to the clinic over the past three decades, agents said. “The quack netted at least NT$70 million, part of which was given to his two sons,” one agent said.
