of its campaign to plant 3.8 million trees -- one for each resident of Taipei County. Aimed at beautifying the county as well as improving the environment by reducing carbon dioxide emissions, Taipei County Magistrate Chou Hsi-wei along with other government officials planted some 12 types of trees in a park by Ta Han Creek in the county's Yingke Township.
Yingko Township chief Su You-jen said that during his term in office he has already beautified 50 hectares of land, roads, and public areas, and hoped that the activity would make Yingko "even more beautiful."
The county government also announced the implementation of a "plant recycling program" to collect unwanted plants from residents so that these can be resold for charity purposes.
Chou said he welcomed all community groups and offices to partake in the tree-planting activities. The county government will concentrate its beautifying efforts on main bridges, roads, and vacant plots, said Chou.
