Indigenous peoples exhibition opens in Taipei

TAIPEI, Taiwan -- An exposition of Taiwan’s indigenous peoples organized by the Council of Indigenous Peoples opened in Taipei City Saturday.

Speaking at its opening, Icyang Parod, chief of the Council of Indigenous Peoples, said the exposition is a combination of a trade fair organized by his council every year and a culture show. It boasted more than 100 booths displaying various indigenous delicacies.

Visitors can experience the different cultures and foods of Taiwan’s 13 aboriginal tribes at the exposition without having to travel to their homelands, Icyang Parod said.

Also on display at the exhibition are travel guides introducing the homelands of the various indigenous tribes in 55 rural townships around the island, as well as a wide array of indigenous handicrafts.

The minister invited teachers of local schools to take their students on a tour of the exposition, saying that it will offer the students a glimpse into the various cultures of Taiwan’s indigenous peoples.
