Ex-Tainan County magistrate throws hat in ring for DPP chair

Former Tainan County Magistrate Su Huan-chih (蘇煥智) announced his bid for chairman of the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) yesterday. Former Legislator Chai Trong-rong (蔡同榮) is also set to join the race, according to Su.

Su spoke for an hour behind closed doors with former Premier Su Tseng-chang (蘇貞昌), who did not step out before cameras after the meeting.

The former premier is occupied with reviewing the just-concluded joint elections, said Su Huan-chih to local media.

But the older Su expressed happiness that the younger generation cares about the country and for the DPP's future, said Su Huan-chih.

The former magistrate said he also intends to meet with DPP Chairwoman Tsai Ing-wen, but the date is not yet set.

Earlier he paid calls to other DPP heavyweights, such as former Vice President Annette Lu (呂秀蓮), Frank Hsieh (謝長廷), and former Legislator Chai.

Said Su, Chai mentioned his own intent to campaign for the chair.

Chai is a three-time candidate of the DPP chairmanship elections.
