Updated Tuesday, June 22, 2010 10:24 am TWN, The China Post news staff Deputy Tainan county chief plans to scrap new municipality caseYen told reporters that he will make the proposal after winning consent from Magistrate Su Huang-chih, who is now in the mainland China promoting sales of mangoes produced by the southern county and is scheduled to return to Taiwan on June 23. Yen said if Su agrees to the proposal, then the proposal will be forwarded to the county council on June 24, one day before the council adjourns. Once the proposal is passed by the county council, Yen said he will contact the Tainan City Government to jointly scrap the merger case already approved by the Ministry of the Interior. In response, ministry officials said that both Tainan County Magistrate Su Huang-chih and County Council Speaker Wu Chien-pao were present at a January 17 meeting with relevant county and city chiefs and shared the view with other local county and city chiefs that there will be no withdrawal of the merger cases, as all the preparations have been underway, including term extensions of current magistrate and mayor by one year.
