Updated Thursday, January 28, 2010 9:53 am TWN, The China Post news staff Tainan to mark New Year and Valentine'sOrganizers are inviting married couples, one of whom must have been born in Tainan City (with ID numbers beginning with “D”) and the other in Tainan County (with ID numbers starting with “R”) to register for the event, to celebrate the festivals and the merge of Tainan City and Tainan County. At the press conference yesterday, the mayor of Tainan City, Hsu Tain-tsair (許添財) and his wife, Hung Shu-chen, (洪淑貞) promoted the event by dressing in traditional wedding costumes and walking into the venue hand in hand followed by modern flower girls and boys. ”This is the last year we celebrate Chinese New Year as Tainan City and Tainan County separately,” Hsu said. “We want to bring some fun to the celebration.” The oldest participating couple will get a two-nights accommodation package in Tainan County, plus a silk blanket from Hsiaying Household. The oldest 64 couples will receive a special souvenir pack containing Dongshan coffee, longan honey, a Hsiaying silk blanket, Chou's shrimp rolls and other goodies. All registered couples participating in the event will get a gift pack containing local food, red packets, mugs, and free admission to Tainan cultural destinations. There will also be photographers on the day. From now until Feb. 8, eligible couples can register by emailing, faxing, or posting photocopies of their ID cards to Tainan Tourism Bureau.
