Dog bites dog; owner pays owner

TAINAN, Taiwan -- A dog owner who's pet injured another dog has been ordered to pay NT$30,000 in reparation, according to a local media report.

An arbitration meeting in Tainan County settled the case involving a Dachshund named 'Jimmy,' who was recently bitten on the leg by Labrador Retriever 'Du Du,' prompting Jimmy's owner, surnamed Shih, to request NT$60,000 to cover medical fees and charges, reported the United Daily News.

But Du Du's owner, surnamed Chang, considered the sum 'excessive,' adding that the injury did not require three operations and a 15-day stay at the veterinary hospital.

The two owners managed to work out settlement costs, with Chang giving his word that “there will not be a second time,” said the report.

Du Du was not present at the arbitration meeting.
